The Nameless on The Crusades

Ah, there we go. Took a while, but I found 'em. I really should tidy up this place. Of course, I didn't spend an entire day looking for the notes. I also received a pair of... unexpected visits. Now, let's see. We could start with... The Crusades, I suppose. It's as good a time as any other.

Now, the Crusades was a point of great power for The Archangel, of course. For those who don't know, the Archangel is the Fear of Religion and Cults. He lends himself well to followers, and can assume the form of anyone who has ever died. Some say he can bring people back from the dead, as zombies, but that's just hearsay. Others say that he is the afterlife. "Others", in this case, being a complete lunatic, who would later on become a proxy to The Slender Man, so the veracity of his claims are... debatable, to say the least.

During the Crusades, many knights pledged allegiance to the Archangel. It is believed that this was the beggining of the cult of the Timberwolves. The knights would fight for the Archangel, collecting treasure for it and, most importantly, fighting against the then-weak-Slenderman's proxies.

"We were chased by a group of Crusaders for days on end. They are as vicious as wolves, and do not stop untill their prey is dead. I am the last of my group, the rest were murdered with no mercy. They claim to be doing this in the name of some divine being who appears as a knight in full armor. I see them everywhere now, their eyes are mad with devotion. I think they found me! I have to-"

"The two sides, a small one, with knights with a circle crossed over on their shields, and a far bigger one, which's knights wore a coat of arms emblazoned with the symbol that has become known as The Star of the Archangel, clashed. Among the fog, not much could be seen, but the two leaders of the legions seemed to stand high above it. One was a tall, thin man with no face, donned in regal clothes. The other, a knight in armor, wielding a staff which proudly displayed the Star."

The Archangel appears to have been far more open about himself during this time. Of course, it would make sense, given that the Crusades was an era of religious fanaticism. The Archangel must have felt right at home, and as such, he seems to have amassed a great army. Of course, when the Renaissance arrived, he must have lost great power... but I'll post about that later. However, The Archangel wasn't the only Fear to have achieved grat power during those times.

The Choir is a Nameless with hardly a physical form, who appears as either a blur or as a grey fungus, and can distort sound and light, to make people believe anything. Someone may be nice and safe, lying in their bed, yet believe they were taken to a place from another world and are being constantly chased by werewolves, for instance. However, their regular modus operandi is torturing someone by changing what they listen, so as to make them believe that everyone hates them. The Choir will continue this until their victim is driven to suicide. They can also talk, in rare occasions. When they do, they sound as though their voices had static. This Nameless also had power during the Crusades, being referred to as "The Voice of The Angels":

"I have heard the Voice of The Angels, and now I am awake. This world is nothing more than torture and pain when I have tasted, if only for mere seconds, the pleasures of the Heavens. I shall depart now, for I cannot resist living here for one more moment. Goodbye."

The Choir seems to have acted differently during the times of the Crusades. Instead of driving people to suicide throug dispair, they showed them a glimpse of unimaginable pleasure, an claimed that it was a glance into the afterlife. The victim, overcome with the horror of not feeling such pleasure, would quickly take their life. Looking at their two methods accross the ages, I cannot say which is more horrifying: dying with the belief that nobody would miss you, or taking your life for a promise that would never come.

Anyways, these were the Nameless that had the most power during the Crusades. Of course, the other ones were still around at the time, but none was as big as those two.
